Ethiopia: Sidama

Ethiopia is the birthplace of Arabica coffee. Our Ethiopia grows 2,000–2,200 metres up in the Sidama region, on small family farms, from the local heirloom varieties Ethiopia is known for.
Sold through a farmer-owned union
The coffee is exported through the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU). Founded in 1999, the union is owned by its member cooperatives: hundreds of them, representing hundreds of thousands of farmers. It sells their coffee directly to buyers abroad instead of through auctions and middlemen, and returns profits to its members as dividends. Over the years the union and its cooperatives have built schools, health posts and clean-water points in coffee-growing communities.
Natural and sun-dried
The ripe cherries are dried whole in the sun, with the fruit still on the bean. That's what gives a natural Ethiopia its fruity, floral cup. We roast it medium-light to keep that brightness: caramel, vanilla, floral and berry.
